Piper J3-C65 Cub at the Fargo Air Museum

Piper J3 Cub WebBanner
The Piper J3-C65 Cub was intended for training and personal purposes. The aircraft’s standard chrome yellow paint has come to be known as “Cub yellow” or “Lock Haven Yellow”. The first version of the cub appeared in 1930 and was called the Taylor E-2 Cub. The E-2 was meant to be an affordable aircraft that would be more accessible to people and spark their interest in aviation. The Cub quickly became one of the top sellers of the private plane market. In 1946, more than 6,000 cubs were made to meet the demand after the war. The demand for them was so high, that Cub’s were being produced in Lock Haven, PA every 20 minutes.

Participating in the Collings Foundation’s WINGS OF FREEDOM TOUR, the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress “Nine O Nine” WWII Heavy Bomber, Consolidated B-24 Liberator “Whichcraft” WWII Heavy Bomber and P-51 Mustang fighter, will fly into Hector International Airport in Fargo, ND. The aircraft will be on display from July 3rd to July 6th. This is a rare opportunity to visit, explore, and learn more about these unique and rare treasures of aviation history.

The Fargo Air Museum will be displaying these aircraft on July 3rd – 2pm to 5pm, July 4th to 6th – 9am to 5pm. Admission includes access to view all aircraft in the Fargo Air Museum and to tour the cockpits of the WINGS OF FREEDOM military aircraft. Admission is $14.00 per person, $30.00 for family (parents and children under 18), and children 6 and under are free.

In the United States the B-17 is one of only eight in flying condition. The B-24J and Full Dual Control P-51C Mustang are the sole remaining examples of their kind flying in the world today.

Visitors may also experience an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take a 30-minute flight aboard these rare warbirds. Flights on either the B-17 or B-24 are $450 per person. Flights on the P-51 are $2,000 for a half hour and $3,200 for a full hour. For reservations and information on flight experiences call 800-568-8924.
