FAA Safety Standdown

April 27, 2013
7:00 am – 9:00 am EAA chapter 317 will serve a $5.00 pancake breakfast. Proceeds will go towards the new Beck-Odegaard Wing.

9:00 am – Noon The FAA 3rd Annual “Safety Standdown” presented by Jay Flowers.
Topics will be :
1) The FSDO & FAAST Team
2) Human Factors
3) Loss of Control issues
There is no charge or admission to attend the Safety meeting.

12:30 pm EAA Chapter 317 and the FAM will have Young Eagles airplane rides. Sign up online to register. You must have a parent or legal guardian sign before minors can take flight.

An Educational Model Show with the Red River Scale Modelers


Who: IPMS Red River Scale Modelers “Cabin Fever Classic” Event
What: Make and Take Model Building Education Event for Kids ages 10-16.
(Children under 10 can register, but they must be accompanied by a parent.)
When: Saturday, April 13, 2013 from 10am – 2pm (Secure your space by registering using the method below, or take your chances and register at the door.)

Welcome to the Winter 2013 Saturday in the Sky for Kids Lecture series! Each session is 1.5 to 2 hours in length and is free to members of the museum. Pre-registration is preferred, but not required to attend.

The Future is here and opportunities abound! Unmanned aircraft are already being used by Military, Law Enforcement, Emergency Response Teams, the DNR and many other civilian entities. This overview of UAS covers the applications for UAS, flight planning aspects for merging in to the National Airspace System with manned aircraft, a Ground Control Station Display, and operation and maintenance of these aircraft. There will be Drones on display. The University of North Dakota UAS Center for Excellence will team up with the Northland Community & Technical College from Thief River Falls to present this exciting glimpse at the New Generation of Aircraft. Both schools are world leaders in the development of this new industry.

From the Wright Flyer to the Space Station, Learn about the materials that make up an airplane. Explore the different materials and the application processes used to build and repair an airplane with Jon Beck and Tyler Beckman from Northland Community & Technical College in Thief River Falls, MN along with area Aviation Maintenance Technicians. What will you use to build your airplane?
